Authors would like to acknowledge Tehran University of Medical Sciences Preclinical Core Facility (TPCF), Tehran, Iran, for providing the in vivo imaging and image processing services for this research.
The researchers can refer to the imaging systems specifications in their publications as follows:
The Xtrim PET scanner
The Xtrim preclinical high resolution Pet scanner (PNP Co, Tehran, Iran), consists of 10 block detectors based on cerium-doped lutetium-yttrium oxyorthosilicate (LYSO:Ce) crystals arranged in the polygonal full-ring structure. Each detector block consists of 24*24 crystal array coupled to 12*12 SiPM array. The size of detector block is 52*52 mm2 with 50.3*50.3 mm2 active area. Each block consists of 24*24 LYSO:Ce crystal array with 2*2*10 mm3 pixel size. The pixels are wrapped with 0.5 m BaSO4 reflector which results 2.1 mm pixel pitch. The syystem used SensL ARRAYC-30035-144P which is a 12*12 array of C-series SiPM pixels (SensL DS 2014).
The HiReSPECT scanner
The HiReSPECT scanner is a developed high resolution animal SPECT (PNP Co, Tehran, Iran). It is a dual-head system with pixelated CsI(Na) crystal (Hilger Crystals, UK) consisting of a 46 * 89 array of pixels. The size of each pixel is 1 * 1 * 5 mm3, and there is a 0.2-mm epoxy septum between the pixels, thus having a pixel pitch of (1.2 mm), the active area of the crystals is about 10 * 5 cm2. Given the active area, each projection is saved as a 38 * 80 matrix. Each head has a high-resolution parallel-hole collimator (Nuclear Fields Co., Australia). The face to face distance, septa size, and thickness of the holes are 1.2, 0.2, and 34 mm, respectively. A pair of H8500C PMTs (Hamamatsu Photonic Co., Japan) is fixed on the scintillation crystal. The system gantry can rotate around a carbon fiber bed, and its radius of rotation can be changed. Decay compensation is also included during system data acquisition. Image reconstruction of the system is based on the maximum-likelihood expectation maximization (MLEM) algorithm, and the final reconstructed image is a 3D 128 * 128 * 240 matrix.
The SURGEOSIGHT scanner
The SURGEOSIGHT a portable small filed gamma camera ( PNP Co., Tehran, Iran) includes a detector module consists of a 43 * 43 array of CsI(Na) scintillator (Hilger Crystals, UK) with pixel dimensions of 1 mm * 1mm * 5 mm (1.2 mm pixel pitch) optically glued to a H8500C PSPMT (Hamamatsu Photonic Co., Japan) with 49 * 49 mm2 active area. A low-energy general-purpose parallel-hole lead collimator with 1.2 mm hexagonal holes, 18 mm thickness, 0.2 mm septal thickness, and total dimension of 50 * 50 mm2 was attached to the front side of the crystal. The detection system including crystal, PSPMT, and electronic boards are placed in housing, shielded by at least 3 mm lead.
